A new book charts a fresh course for Western aesthetics, a trajectory that includes three JLF projects among its roster of rustically refined homes.
Through stellar photography and interviews of homeowners, designers and architects (including JLF Principals), Rustic Modern props open intimate windows on the modern movement toward Western in situ architecture.
Representing the best of the best, the 15 featured projects span the states—Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, California and Colorado—a national scope that serves to redefine the staid definition of Western as worn boots and rugged terrain. Instead, the commentary comes alive with visionary perspectives on singular sites, thereby appealing to a wide audience interested in everything from modern architecture to western lifestyle.
Arriving just in time for holiday gifting, the book picks up where the pair behind American Rustic (Gibbs Smith, 2015) left off. Chase Reynolds Ewald has spent 25 years writing about food, design, travel and lifestyle. As current editor of Western Art & Architecture Magazine, she is the definitive voice on modern Western design. Ewald’s prose pairs perfectly with the photography of Audrey Hall, who has provided pictures for the likes of The New York Times, Luxe, Sunset, and the Wall Street Journal, as well as our own project gallery.
