JLF SIGNATURE ELEMENTS: CHEERS—Custom Bars + Cellars
“Age appears best in four things: old wood to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust and old authors to read.” Francis Bacon
We take Sir Bacon to task on his relegation of old wood to the fireplace (using it to build as we do!) and yet the wisdom of his words ring true: a crackling fire, a bottle of wine, dear friends and a classic tome make a woodsy evening all the more memorable. When our clients ask us to design special settings for their treasured collections of libations, we consider context and camaraderie: How will the bottles best be stored and ultimately shared?
A wine lair for the true scholar: Spacious rows of reclaimed wood are capped by podiums displaying documentation on the collection. Each vintage claims its own bin—a sommelier’s fantasy of navigation. An adjoining tasting room makes this subterranean cellar the ultimate enclave for oenophiles.
A custom wooden bar fills a stone wall bracketed by metal doors opening onto the terrace and ponds, thus becoming the perfect threshold for indoor/outdoor entertaining (even if only in an atmosphere in Wyoming’s winters). Sheathed in reclaimed timber, the bar—illuminated by subtle interior spotlights and lined with functional shelves—becomes an elegant focal point of every event.
