Villa Palazzetta

Under the Tuscan Sun

Reclaiming history in the Tuscan hillside called for a delicate balance of respect and pragmatism when JLF Architects teamed up with a local Design Build architectural firm in Montalcino. Built in the 1600s, this Italian villa was reclaimed from disrepair through thoughtful collaboration that set out to preserve the stone structure while adding a mix of antique and contemporary elements. A shared philosophy of using old materials to create new spaces resulted in a house with all its authentic historic charm intact. Yet the improvements facilitate modern living—a fluid kitchen and dining room design, effortless access to outdoor spaces from the main living room, bedroom suites that feel as luxurious as a five-star hotel, and all without an audacious expansion of square-footage or a dramatic shift in building materials.
